USD rises amidst thin trading conditions<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The USD <\/strong>was on the rise in the FX market<\/a><\/strong> yesterday, and during today\u2019s Asian session, thin trading conditions<\/strong> tend to apply in the markets, given the US and Canadian public holidays yesterday and the Lunar New Year celebrated across Asia today. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The markets<\/a> are increasingly awaiting the release of the Fed\u2019s January meeting minutes<\/strong> tomorrow and the preliminary US GDP rates<\/strong> for Q4 on Friday, as well as the US PCE rates<\/strong> for January on the same day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

December UK employment data weigh on the pound<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The release of the UK employment data<\/strong> for December showed an unexpected easing <\/strong>of the UK employment market, and the release weighed <\/strong>on the pound <\/strong>as it lost notable ground against the USD, EUR and JPY, showing signs of a wider weakness. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In tomorrow\u2019s early European session, we highlight the release of the UK CPI rates<\/strong> for January, and should there be a possibly wider than expected slowdown of the rates being reported, we may see the sterling tumbling.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

US stock markets on the retreat<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Despite yesterday\u2019s US public holiday, US equities<\/a><\/strong> seem to be on the retreat as market worries for the oversized investments of US mega-cap tech<\/strong> companies in Artificial Intelligence<\/strong>, continue to tantalise the markets<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We highlight today\u2019s American opening as a moment of truth for US equities<\/strong> as the markets restart their engines after the holiday.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bitcoin continues to wobble<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In the crypto market<\/strong>, Bitcoin\u2019s <\/strong>price action continued to wobble <\/strong>without clear direction, and we still view its movement resembling more like equities rather than safe havens. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We expect that should a wider risk-off market sentiment<\/strong> emerge, Bitcoin\u2019s price could react negatively as it considered a riskier asset in the markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other highlights for today<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Today we get Germany\u2019s ZEW indicators<\/strong> for February, and Canada\u2019s delayed release of the CPI rates for January. On a monetary level<\/strong>, we note that Fed Board Governor Barr <\/strong>and San Francisco Fed President Daly <\/strong>are speaking. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In tomorrow\u2019s Asian session, we get Japan\u2019s trade data<\/strong> for January, Australia\u2019s <\/strong>Wage Price for Q4 and in New Zealand RBNZ <\/strong>releases its interest rate decision, which is expected to remain on hold, yet a possibly dovish tone could weigh on the Kiwi (Kiwi) <\/strong>and vice versa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Charts to keep an eye out<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

GBP\/USD<\/u> <\/strong>dropped in today\u2019s European session breaking the 1.3590 (R1) support line<\/strong> now turned to resistance<\/strong>. Yet the RSI indicator<\/strong> remained near the reading of 50, implying a relative indecisiveness on behalf of market participants. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the time being we expect the sideways motion<\/strong> to continue yet warn for any bearish tendencies<\/strong> of cable<\/strong>. Should the bears <\/strong>actually take over we may see GBP\/USD<\/a> aiming if not breaching the 1.3385 (S1) support line. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Should the bulls <\/strong>take over, we may see the pair reversing today\u2019s losses, breaking the 1.3590 (R1) resistance line and start aiming for the 1.3790 (R2) resistance level. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BTC\/USD<\/span> <\/strong>continued to wobble just above the 66750 (S1) support line yesterday and during today\u2019s Asian session edged a bit lower. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We maintain currently a bias for the crypto\u2019s sideways motion to continue, yet we highlight the possibility of a bearish movement as the RSI indicator remains near the reading of 30, implying a continuance of the market\u2019s bearish sentiment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For a bearish outlook to emerge we would require the crypto\u2019s price action to break the 66750 (S1) support line and continue to also break the 60000 (S2) support barrier. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For a bullish outlook to be adopted, the crypto-king\u2019s<\/strong> price action<\/strong> has to break the 74560 (R1) resistance line clearly and start aiming for the 81160 (R2) resistance hurdle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
